Blue New Mexico glass vase by Josh Simpson
“Years ago I was given
the opportunity as an artist to photograph inside a nuclear power plant.
One of the most amazing things I witnessed was the incredibly pure blue light
of Cherenkov radiation emitted from the uranium fuel rods glowing within the
core of the reactor. New Mexico glass is as
close as I can get to the intense azure of that radioactive light! The New
Mexico pattern is so varied that at times it reminds me of the sky on a perfect
summer evening or a Hubble Space telescope image of one of the great nebula or
I can imagine looking from above down at a stormy blue ocean with
swirling currents and waves.”
